平成13年度は、主にアメリカ社会におけるアジア系移民問題、特に全米日系移民博物館と中国人移民博物館の展示およぴ日系移民と中国人移民の過去の経験を通じて、彼らのアイデンティティの変容過程を中心に検討した。米国におけるアジア系移民問題特に第二次世界大戦期において、アジア系移民問題は米国の国民統合と国民国家の再建の過程で、どのような意味をもっていたのか、またアジア系移民問題が米国の対アジア政策の転換にどのような影響を与えたのか、という課題について研究を行ってきた。その研究成果の一部は2001年4月『大阪教育大学紀要』に掲載された。こうした研究成果を踏まえた上で、アメリカ社会では、日系移民と中国人移民が過去、どのような経験があって、それらの経験と記憶が彼らのアンデンティティヘの形成・変容にどのようなインパクトを与えたのかを総合的に分析し、研究をさらに深めた。移民博物館の展示は、歴史の語りの重層性および歴史の再構築を解明する上で、きわめて重要な意味をもっている。従って、日系移民博物館と中国人移民博物館の展示物や歴史的な遺産を通して、アジア系移民のアイデンティティの形成・変容過程を明かにしながら、米国におけるアジア系移民の実態の一側面を探ることができた。来年、研究成果の出版(2003年の『移民研究』に投稿予定)ができればと考えている。
