In the summer of 2015, an initial workshop on the different needed steps to start the development of an implantable artificial lung was organized with the help of the DFG. It was agreed on the application for a priority program, which should allow to lay the foundations for an implantable lung. The application, jointly drawn up with the other researchers of the coordination committee, was approved in April 2016. The planning and the coordination of the SPP 2014 has been the responsibility of Prof. Rossaint since summer 2015. Focus activities, such as organization and organization of meetings and workshops, SPP internal communication, mentoring or public relations, including Homepage, must be encouraged in the coordinator project and - to a certain extent - be carried out from Aachen. At the same time, all stakeholders in the SPP are encouraged to participate in the joint activities so that the targeted close networking of the various research sites and topics can also be achieved. The coordinators of this SPP are well aware that the research progress and results should be circulated and discussed in regular meetings, so that they can be used by other groups working in this structured research program.
