项目摘要

最終年度にあたる本年度は、古代から現代まで広く意志概念に関わる資料を収集、調査しつつ、マルグリット・ポレートの『単純な魂の鏡』（以下『鏡』）に関する研究成果と、中世の二元論的異端思想であるカタリ派の自由意志理解に関する研究成果が得られた。『哲学・科学史論叢』第22号に発表した「『単純な魂の鏡』における「遠くに在りて近きもの」」では、『鏡』に現れる「遠くに在りて近きもの」(le Loingpres)が聖書的背景よりもむしろ世俗文学を着想の源泉としながらも、そのいずれにも留まらず、神的意志の問題として展開されていることを示した。この分析によって、高度な完成の段階にある魂における意志について、披けとしての自由意志を保持した状態と、神的意志の顕現に満たされた状態との関係についてポレートがどのように措定しているのかを明確にすることが出来たため、特に中世における神秘思想領域での意志理解の深化に寄与することが出来たものと思われる。カタリ派についての業績「『二原理の書』における悪と意志」では、カタリ派の著作である『二原理の書』で展開される自由意志否定の論証についてその論理構造を分析し、その論証が無時間的領域でのみ成立するものであり、被造的世界には妥当しないことをものとなっていることを論証した。その上で、自由意志の否定が、被造的世界における人間において、特に悪との関係を考えた場合、どのように適用されるのかについて考究を試み、カタリ派的倫理感が、自由意志を持たない人間はそれでも善き意志も悪しき意志も持ちうるが、行為の原因となるのは外的な原理であり、意志とは関係なしに行為としての結果においてのみ善悪が判断されるというものであることを示した。以上の研究によって、これまで注目されてこなかったが確かに一定の影響を与えていた中世における自由意志と悪をめぐる理解に新たな光を与えることが可能となった。
