This project studies how ‘smart’ technologies in agriculture form a decisive part of futuremaking in rural Africa today. Focusing on mobile information services in the Kenyan Rift Valley and the Kilombero Valley in Tanzania, the project (1) puts the visions that guide the practical field of ICT4D into their historical context, (2) follows the translation of future-related knowledge into concrete information and advice, and (3) investigates how m-services actually inform local agricultural practices and thus contribute to socio-ecological transformation.
