生物は、種間交雑によって親種元来の分布域より幅広い環境に進出する可能性がある。日本海島嶼地域の1つである隠岐諸島は、狭い島内で冷温帯林構成種と暖温帯林構成種が混生し、植物種の分布が垂直的に圧縮した特徴的な植生が形成されている。その中で、コナラ属の3種（ミズナラ・カシワ・コナラ）では、島内で頻繁に交雑が生じていると考えられる。そこで本研究では、隠岐諸島全域に広く分布するミズナラの空間遺伝構造をマイクロサテライトマーカーにより明らかにし、他種との交雑の頻度やそれによる種の分布域の拡大の関係を明らかにしようとしている。諸島内でコナラ属が分布する地域を探索し、島前と島後合わせて6地点で形態計測用の葉と堅果、DNA解析用の葉を採取し、DNA解析と形態計測に着手した。2023年度以降、DNA解析と形態計測用を継続する予定である。また、比較対象として、島根半島と大山でも追加のサンプリングを行う。マイクロサテライトマーカーを用いて、それらの交雑の頻度と交雑帯の空間遺伝構造を明らかにする。これにより、近縁種との交雑による遺伝子浸透が生じているのかを明らかにし、雑種形成がもたらす植物の進化や環境適応の仕組みの理解、ひいては生物多様性の進化維持機構の理解に繋げる。隠岐諸島・中国山地の比較により、隠岐諸島の特異的な植生の形成との関係を考察する。
