がんの治療成績が飛躍的に向上する一方で、診断のショックや治療による負担は、患者に強い精神的苦痛をもたらす。がん患者の自殺率は依然として高く、患者の精神的苦痛を軽減することが重要課題である。これに対しては心理療法が推奨され、患者も医療者も支援を必要としているが、残念なことに実際に心理療法の受療に至るケースは少ない。その理由として、心理療法といっても様々なものがあり、患者や医療者にとって理解しづらいという点が高い障壁となっている。エビデンスに基づく医学的治療とは異なり、心理療法は専門家の経験から体系化・伝承されていくため、類似した支援が乱立している。したがって、まず研究１として、がん患者に対する様々な心理療法の種類や内容に関するデータを収集し、機械学習を用いて心理療法をカテゴリに再分類する。つづいて研究2として、患者の状況やニーズごとに、精神的苦痛改善に有効な心理療法カテゴリを明らかにする。まず2021年度には研究１について倫理審査委員会の承認を得て、緩和ケアチームの心理職を対象とした全国調査を行った。2022年度は、研究１の解析を行い、がん心理療法のパターンが入院と外来で異なることを明らかにし、どのようなパターンがあるのかを整理し、2023年度の学会発表・論文執筆に向けた準備を行った。また研究２の実施準備として、使用するアウトカム評価尺度の標準化研究を追加し、倫理審査委員会の承認を得て、データ収集を開始した。
