本研究は２０１８年に開始された一般住民に対する潜在的動脈硬化の疫学研究の一部として、ソーシャルキャピタルが一般住民の潜在的動脈硬化に与える影響を明らかにすることを目的としている。ソーシャルキャピタルについては質問紙表にて、潜在性動脈硬化に関しては胸部CT検査にて冠動脈を撮影し、石灰化の度合いを冠動脈石灰化スコアを用いて評価を行っている。本研究事業は市町村の住民健診に参加して、追加の血液検査、便・唾液細菌検査および冠動脈石灰化評価のためのCT検査への参加希望者を募集しており参加人数は、２０１８年度に開始して以降２０１８年度参加者８９名、うちCT撮影１名、２０１９年度参加者２８７名、うちCT撮影１８２名であった。しかし２０２０年度は新型コロナウイルス感染症の感染拡大により４月より７月まで住民健診でのリクルートができず、同様に４月から６月までCT検査の実施もできなかった。しかしそれでも６月以降CT撮影および８月以降住民健診に参加を再開して、着実に参加者を増やしていき、最終的に２０２０年度単年で研究参加者総数２６０名、うちCT受診者数は２０９名であった。２０２１年度も長く続く新型コロナウイルスの影響で参加者は例年と比べるとやや低調であったが、単年で研究参加者総数１４９名、うち１４６名がCTを撮影することができた。２０２２年度は参加者は１５０名、CT撮影数１３１名で、これまでに撤回者を除く参加者総数は８９６名、CT撮影者総数は６６７名となった。本研究のCT撮影の目標人数は１０００人であり、今後も引き続き研究事業を継続していく予定である。
