日本の訪問リハビリテーション (以下、訪問リハ) はセラピストが対面で直接指導することで、高齢者でも安全に運動することが可能である一方、介入頻度が低く、運動効果を得るには自主トレーニング指導が必須となる。しかし、運動習慣のない要介護高齢者が非監視下で運動することは、安全性やモチベーションの点からも容易ではない。本研究では、筋力増強トレーニングの代替方法として筋電気刺激 (Electrical muscular stimulation; EMS) に着目し、訪問リハビリテーションと併用した場合の効果について検証することを目的とした。2021年度途中より研究代表者の妊娠・出産に伴う研究活動の一時休止を経て、2022年9月より研究活動再開となった。研究活動再開後は関連学会への参加や先行研究のレビューを通して情報収集を随時行い、介入方法の手順の確認や強度・頻度の妥当性の検証を行なっている。また、研究活動の一時休止の影響により介入研究の対象者リクルートに時間を要するため、観察研究を同時並行で行うための準備を行なっている。リハビリテーションにおいて、適切な評価指標を用いた定期的な効果検証は必要であるが、訪問リハでは、病院や研究施設とは異なり、各家庭という設備や資源が限られた中でのサービス提供を求められる。そのため、客観的な指標による定期評価の体制が整っていない場合が多い。持ち運びが容易な評価機器や自宅内という狭小スペースでも安全に実行可能な身体パフォーマンス評価の選択を行い、定期評価の体制構築と結果からの観察研究の遂行準備を研究協力施設にて行なっている。
