2021年10月に行われた日本英文学会九州支部第74回大会（オンライン開催）での口頭発表「『ヴェニスの商人』におけるポーシャの教養」を発展させ、同名の論文として投稿し、『英文学研究 支部統合号 15』(2023年1月20日、pp. 263-271、九州支部英文学)に慫慂論文として掲載された。この論文では、ウィリアム・シェイクスピアの喜劇『ヴェニスの商人』(推定初演1596-98)において、主要登場人物であるポーシャが、夫バサーニオの友人アントーニオを裁判で救うために発揮した雄弁術について、初演当時のイングランド社会で考えられていた女性教育の在り方と比較しながら分析し、物語の喜劇展開と関連させて論じた。女性教育論として議論したのは、特にファン・ルイス・ヴィヴェスの『キリスト教女性の教育』(1523、英訳1529)と、リチャード・マルカスターの『提言』(1581)である。具体的にはまず、『ヴェニスの商人』に描かれるポーシャの教養に、当時の女性教育の制限が反映されていることを分析した。この傾向は、材源の一つであるジョヴァンニ・フィオレンティーノの『イル・ペコローネ』(1558)と比較すると、より明らかになった。次に、ポーシャを演じた少年俳優と男性教育との関連から、ポーシャの未完成な教養について論じた。これによって、ポーシャは女性登場人物でありながら、グラマー・スクールで学ぶ少年をも表象しているという見解が得られた。続いて、箱選びの場面を分析し、男性中心的な社会において、女性の雄弁術教育に対して抱かれる脅威を、本作品におけるオウィディウスの受容とともに読み解いた。最後に、裁判と指輪事件を分析し、こうした脅威にもかからわず、ポーシャの教養が男性中心的な教育観を転覆させ、喜劇的展開を導くことを論じた。
