项目摘要

本研究の目的は、文学作品『太平記』とその歴史観（「太平記史観」）が、日本中世史、とりわけ南北朝期政治史に今なお強い影響を与え続けている状況を批判し、それにかわって、関係する古文書・古記録・典籍類などを網羅的・全国的に収集・分析し、より精度の高い実証的・総合的な当該期政治史の再構築を図ろうとすることにある。今年度はその初年度であった。そこで得られた成果は以下の通り。第一に、全体に関わるものとして「南北朝時代」（『新編西尾市史』通史編1原始・古代・中世）を上梓した。これは吉良氏を軸に鎌倉末期～南北朝期を見通したものである。その際、可能な限り一次史料に基づき、『太平記』の叙述を相対化していくことを目指した。今後、さらにその精度を上げていくつもりである。第二に、個別に関わるものとして①「里見氏らが推戴した関東足利氏と支配の枠組み」（『図説戦国里見氏』戎光祥出版）、②「足利氏の一門であった里見氏」（同上）を執筆した。いずれも里見氏が「足利一門」だったこと（里見氏は新田一族で、新田一族は足利一門であったこと）を改めて指摘したものである。同時に、里見氏ら新田一族を足利一門ではないとする認知（思い込み）こそ「太平記史観」にほかならず、中世（当時の人々）の認識に基づいて同時代史を再構築していく必要性を再度提起した。同様に、書評類として「書評高橋秀樹著『北条氏と三浦氏』、田中大喜著『足利氏と新田氏』」（『週刊読書人』3434号）を認めたが、そこにおいても田中大喜のあいもかわらぬ姿勢（実証の不備、論理の欠陥、研究に対する態度）を厳しく批判し斥けて、「太平記史観」にとらわれないこれからの研究のありかたを広く読者に示した。逆にいえば、依然「太平記史観」はいまだ学術・世間を覆っているといえるのであり、本研究はかかる状況を打破することを目指すものである。
