一年目は科学論とメディア論の接点を探るための基礎的作業を行った。勤務先である京都大学人文科学研究所共同研究班「科学的知識の共同性を支えるメディア実践に関する学際的研究」の副班長を務め、定期的な研究会を開催すると同時に、映像文化論などの専門家を招いて、映像史と科学史の協力可能性について意見交換を行った。さらに、メディア論と科学論をすすめる上で鍵となる著作としてダストン＆ギャリソン『客観性』、ラトゥール＆ウールガー『ラボラトリー・ライフ』の合同合評会を企画した。特にラトゥールのインスクリプション論が科学論とメディア論の交点として果たしうる可能性に注目し、9月の日本科学社会学会の書評セッションでは「ANTとメディア論的科学史、あるいは知ることの物質性について：『アクターネットワーク理論入門』への科学史の立場からのコメント 」を発表した。これをさらに発展させたものを、「書記技術のマテリアリズム：ブリュノ・ラトゥールのメディア論のために」として『現代思想』のラトゥール特集号に発表した。こうした基礎的作業と並行する形で、テレビの歴史、科学の歴史、メディア論者たちのパフォーマンスとしての注意（attention）の歴史に注目した史料調査を進めた。日本におけるメディア論の登場は、テレビの前の視聴者が番組を真面目に見ていないかもしれないという注意散漫の可能性を見越した上で、注意散漫への介入としてしばしば組み立てられる。こうした介入的パフォーマンスを適切に理解するためには、そもそも介入されるべき対象としての注意がどのように理解されていたのかを理解する必要がある。一年目は、そうした産業社会における注意散漫な主体を扱う（不）注意論の拠点として、大原労働科学研究所に注目し、そこで行われていた労働科学的注意論の歴史や人間工学の歴史についての調査を行った。
