This study aims to explore the proposed structural and functional clusters in IO and investigate the correlation and contribution of spatiotemporal firing patterns of IO neurons to mice walking/running performance. The IO recording method developed in this study can be applied with other behavior protocols and benefit future olivo-cerebellar system-related research.A behavior setup including a treadmill and cameras used for locomotion study has been built. The setup has been tested with mice to optimize the parameters, such as speed, to fit various gaits of mice.The surgical procedure for implantation of the lens into the inferior olive for calcium imaging has been tested and optimized to achieve consistent results with the least damage to the animal.Some preliminary results have been shared and discussed at international conferences, such as the Annual Conference of Society for Neuroscience Annual Conference, The Annual Conference of Japan Neuroscience Society, and The Annual Conference of Chinese Neuroscience Society, for suggestions from peer scientists.
