1. 研究目的本研究は高等学校における地理の都道府県別履修状況を把握するとともに、その地域的傾向を明らかにし、どの様な地域的特性が地理の履修に影響を与えるかを分析、考察することを目的として実施した。そして、地理履修率を高める地域政策の示唆を得ることとした。2. 研究方法文部科学省より公益社団法人日本地理学会に開示された道府県別科目別の教科書需要数データをもとに、地歴3科目(日本史、世界史、地理)の都道府県別の履修率を推計し、その地域的傾向を分析・考察した。そして、地理の履修に影響を与える地域特性を計量モデル式として構築し、重回帰分析により地理の履修率に寄与する地域特性を推計し、都道県教育委員会へのインタビューで補足した。3. 研究成果都道府県別の地理の履修率は、97%から34%と地域差が極めて大きいことが明らかになった。また、概ね東日本は西日本と比較して高く、大都市は地方圏よりも低いが、明確な地域的傾向はなかった。地理の履修率に影響する地域特性が、①日本史か地理のどちらか一つの履修で十分とする効率性を重視する教育風土、②地理教育に熱心に取り組む教員の存在、との仮説を設定した。効率性の代理指標として保守性を反映する「国立大学進学率」、「宿題実施率」を分析した結果、保守性の強い地域では概して地理履修率は低い傾向にあった。一方、熱心度の代理指標として「高校生1万人あたり日本地理学会所属高校教員数」を分析した結果、履修率との明確な関係を読み取れなかった。このことから、地理の履修率は、地理関係者の熱意が規定するのではなく、地域の教育風土を反映していると推察された。その結果をインタビューで補足し、個別教員の熱意に加えて、多様な学びを尊ぶ教育風土の醸成と、それを支える制度的な枠組みが重要であることが地域政策的な成果として得られた。

The proxy index of one party and enthusiasm is "10,000 college students and the number of teachers in universities affiliated with the Japanese Geographical Society". The analysis results and the performance rate are clearly related.
