(研究の目的)地理教育は、知識に加えて思考力やスキルといった「地理的な見方・考え方」が重要であり、次期学習指導要領でも「アクティブラーニング」がキーワードに挙げられている。地理教員も、地理的知識の多少ではなく、一層の地理的思考力の研鑽・向上が求められており、それに合致した採用試験問題の作問、出題が行われるべきである。そこで、本研究は全国の社会科・地歴科の教員採用試験において、地理の能力をどの様な問題で把握し、評価しようとしているか、その都道府県別状況を把握することを目的とした。そして、社会科・地歴科教員の地理的思考力のキャリア形成のあり方を考察した。(研究手法)月刊誌『教職課程』及び『教員養成セミナー』の都道府県別過去問題集を購入・活用し、地理分野の出題傾向を整理、分析した。また、特色ある採用試験を実施する自治体へのインタビュー調査を実施し、地理的思考力の向上がキャリア形成にどのような効果をもたらすか、等を整理した。(研究成果)過去5カ年程度の都道府県・政令市別の公立中学校、高等学校の教員採用試験(社会科、地歴科)の枠組みを整理した結果、地理の単独採用と、地歴一体採用の自治体の全国的傾向を把握した。近年の地理の採用試験問題は、知識を問う問題が中心であり、思考力を問う問題は減少していた。また、技能を問う代表的な問題の地形図問題は、東日本で多く出題されている傾向が窺えた。一方、中学校社会科の採用試験問題に占める地理分野の問題数比率と、都道府県の地域特性の関係を重回帰分析したが、統計的に有意な要因は抽出できなかった。このことから、地理の出題比率は、地理関係者の熱意や災害発生件数等が規定しているのではなく、地域の教育風土を反映していると推察された。その結果をインタビューで補足し、採用試験は教員のキャリア形成の入口にしかすぎず、不断の研修が重要であること、それを支える教育風土の醸成と制度的な枠組みが重要であることが地域政策的な成果として得られた。
