项目摘要

本研究の目的は、大正期以降に巨大化した製糸家の経営形態について、個別製糸工場に焦点を当てて考察を行うことである。研究の対象としたのは、片倉製糸と並んで2大製糸資本に位置付けられた郡是製糸、そしてその分工場の1つである長井工場である。この時期の大規模製糸工場が高格糸生産体制を確立するに際しては、多条繰糸機が大きい役割を果たしたとされるが、それがどういう経緯で導入され、生産性や収益性にどういう影響を与えたのか、という点については明確にされてこなかった。そのため本研究ではこの点を分析の中心とした。研究に当たっては、5回にわたって京都府綾部市の郡是本社に存する経営史料の収集を行い、その分析を行った。本研究において考察した内容は以下の通りである。1932年、同工場において多条繰糸機を導入した直後は、スペシャル3 Aクラス生糸の市場価格と2 Aクラスの市場価格との間に大きい懸隔があったことを事由として、スペシャル3 Aクラスの生糸が生産の中心となっていた。そのため品位の向上が何よりも優先しており、生産性については必ずしも良好であるとは言えなかった。しかし単位当たり収益額は、他の郡是製糸工場と比しても高かった。その後、1930年代後半に至ると、高格糸需要の減退から、郡是の生糸生産においてもより低格の生糸にシフトしていくことが方針として打ち出され、糸歩や「工程」の増加が具体的な目標として提示された。長井工場においても生産する生糸の品質を相対的に低下させつつ、それとともに糸歩や「工程」の上昇を実現させている。しかし同工場の収益について考えた場合、それは生糸の生産性以上に原料繭価格と生糸価格の差によるところが大きく、郡是全工場の平均値と比して乱高下が著しかった。すなわち、同工場では生糸需要の変化に伴い本社から出された指示を前提に、生産体制を整えながら高品質生糸生産を維持していったといえる。
