近年「食育」の推進がもとめられている。「食」が生活の上で重要であることは,子どもも頭では理解している。しかし,「食」に対して自ら積極的に働きかけていこうとする実践意欲力は,まだまだ乏しいのが現状である。そこで,子どもが,「食」の大切さを実感し生活に浸透させていくために,実践的・体験的学習を重視し,1つ目の実践として,3・4年複式学級の子どもたちと学級菜園をつくりサツマイモの栽培を行った。草取りや土おこし,畝作りなどもすべて自分たちの手で行った。子どもは,自然の恵みや人々の働きなどこれまで何気なく食べていた作物の背景にまで,目を向けることができるようになった。食べ物に対する愛着をもち,素材の味を生かした調理実習を行うことができた。そのことが結果として,食材を無駄なく活用したエコクッキングへと向かう原動力となった。2つめの実践として,山形の特産品である蕎麦について追求活動を行った。なぜ,蕎麦が山形の名物と呼ばれるまでになったのかその歴史を調べたり,蕎麦の栄養価を調べたりしたことをもとに,村山市の伝承館に赴き蕎麦打ち体験を行った。粉の文化や人々の知恵についても学びを深めることができた。3つ目の実践として,山形の食品加工工場の見学を行った。原料の厳選,製造過程での衛生管理など食の安全安心のために努力していることを知ることができた。また,山形のおいしい物を全国に届けるための努力もなされていることがわかり,自分の食卓に届く全ての食べ物に対する視野を広げ,食べ物と自分とのつながりを感じることができた。このように,栽培活動や地域食材を活用した調理など,山形の食文化を探り,自分の食生活と環境とのつながりを視野に入れた学習活動プログラムのを開発することができた。
