本研究では勤務校の位置する備後地方に縁のある以下の人物について中・高校生の社会科授業(公民系)における教材化の可能性を解明しようとした。・窪田次郎:福山にて明治期初頭に「啓蒙所」「民会」を設立した医師・教育者・山本瀧之助:沼隈郡にて明治期後半から大正期に青年教育・青年団活動を推進・柴原浦子:尾道にて大正期に産婆として産児調節運動を行う・中井正一:尾道市立図書館長として戦後期に青年教育・社会教育活動を推進上記4名とも日本社会の変革期にあって,日常の生活課題に実践的に取り組んだばかりでなく,自身による文字記録も残している。したがって,彼らが実践を通してどのような社会(公共空間)を実現しようと構想していたかを探求することができる。それを生徒とともに検討する教材とする場合,どのような視座からの授業構成が可能かを検討してきた。方法としては,上記人物たちによる文献資料のレファレンスの再実行に加えて,教材化のためのテーマ設定を検討する前段階として,近年活発な様相を呈している公共哲学や応用倫理学の知見,日本近現代史や現代日本社会の課題に関する文献の渉猟に重きを置いた。この過程の中で,窪田と柴原については医療・衛生・生命をテーマに,山本と中井については中央と地方や新社会建設と青年をテーマに彼らが理想とした社会理念を抽出し,その理念を確認できる地域の日常生活に根ざした具体的活動場面を選定できるという結論に至った。さらに、教材化をすすめる際の課題として、以下の点が明らかになった。1)基本的な政治経済理念の学習や今日的な社会的論争問題の理解を,彼らの具体的提案・実践と関わらせながら,どの程度,どのように配置するかの検討。2)日常生活における政治を生徒たちに気づかせることを目標に,人物の全体像を理解する歴史学習ではなく,政治学習として設定したテーマで人物の提案・実践を切るとることの妥当性の検討。
