室町幕府の将軍権力を支えた、守護の統率下にない、将軍が直轄した御家人で、親衛隊的存在である「奉公衆」と呼ばれる家は、全国に分布し、最大時、約180家、350名を数えた。彼らの支配する所領は、全国の地域支配を国単位で任された守護の領国内に多く存在し、守護の関与が及ぼせない守護不入地として、独自の地域支配を展開し、守護の権力増大を規制する役割をもっていた。奉公衆については、これまで奉公衆名簿(「番帳」)のうち、番に編成された部分のみ分析が行われていた。本研究では、奉公衆名簿の原本確認および、番に編成された部分以外の人物について一覧を作成し、分析を加えた。また奉公衆名簿には、人名の実名の記載なく、その家が代々称する官途や通称・幼名で記されているため、記載されている人物が、当時の誰であるのかを確定する作業が必要で、諸史料や研究論文などから確定した。その結果、新たな全国の奉公衆一覧表を作成することができた。また外様衆とよばれる一群についても分析を加え、番衆に限定されない、将軍直轄の御家人について検討した。室町時代後期から明確化する、将軍直轄の御家人である奉公衆は、室町幕府体制における将軍家「家中」の形成として捉えることができるとの見通しを得ることができた。
