本研究では、ヨーロッパ及び我が国のオープンアクセス環境(OA)下における恒久識別子(Persistent Identifier)のあり方を探り、その適用可能性を調査するため、著者を同定・識別するためのメタデータ要素である著者識別子(Author Identifier=AI)の現状と適用可能性について検討した。ヨーロッパでは、オープンアクセス環境下で、機関リポジトリ(Institutional Repository)のコンテンツ(主に論文等のテキスト)を、インターネット上で一意に同定識別するために、執筆者を同定するメタデータ要素を検討・策定している。オランダでは、Groningen大学がSURFと協力して、DAI(Digital Author Identifier)を策定・導入してヨーロッパに本拠を持つOCLC PIACAがこれを事業として取り込んだ。OCLC PICAはOCLCに吸収され、DAIのユニークキーの体系はOCLCが支援組織の一つであるISNI(International Standard Number Identifier)に発展している。ISNIは、現状では、ISOのドラフト(ISO DRAFT 27729)である(DAIの例:info : eu-repo/dai/nl/07432178)。イギリスでは、JISC助成によるNAME Projectが著者典拠の検討を行っているが、まだ実装レベルには到達していない。一方、ISIトムソンやCrossRefなどの出版関係団体を中心に、トムソンのWebKnowledgeに導入されているResearcherIDを識別子の1案とするORCID(Open Researcher & Contributor ID)プロジェクトがスタートしている。これにはリポジトリ関係者も参加しており今後の進展が期待されるが現状は検討巾の進行プロジェクトである。いずれにしろ、有料・無料を問わず、学術論文等の著者を同定する著者典拠機能(狭義にはAI)は世界的な基盤整備の課題であることは間違いない。一方、我が国の研究者を網羅するIDは存在しておらず、研究者の数から既存のIDで網羅するのは困難である。既存のDBでは、国立情報学研究所が「科研の研究者番号に独自の番号を付加」して、研究者リゾルバと呼ばれる研究者(典拠)DBの番号としているが、これを拡張して学術機関リポジトリによるオープンアクセスコンテンツの著者に適用するのが最も網羅的な効果が期待できる。しかし、科研の個人番号などを持たない機関のリポジトリを対象に想定すると、個別大学の業績DBの番号スキーマを包含できることが望ましく、職員番号など独自番号(AI)と科研個人番号(AI)の代替性を番号体系に組み込むことが、上記リゾルバのOA環境における同定機能の汎用性を確保することにつながると結論する。
