○研究目的本研究は、日本美術の独自性である「非完結性」を理解させる鑑賞教育方法の論理を考察し、それを踏まえ開発した教材を実践し、この方法の可能性を検証する。日本美術を「非完結性」を軸に鑑賞させる方法を構築して、日本文化と日本美術のより説得的な鑑賞教育方法を提案する。○研究方法奈良から明治時代までの代表的な日本美術作品を選択し、次の順序で研究した。1.対象作品の非完結性の類型を特定。実際の空間・場との総合を確認するため所蔵先で調査。2.非完結性を理解させる指導方法と授業計画を作成し実践して検証。○研究成果日本美術作品の「非完結性」は次の類型となる。1.間隙の存在:絵の余白・屏風の両隻の間隙等において、描かれていない部分を鑑賞者が想像で補って完成させる。2.空間・場との総合;襖絵、屏風、掛け軸のように作品と作品が置かれている場が織り成す空間の美が重視される。3.時間の包含:絵巻のように巻き取り広げを繰り返すことで、作品に時間の経過を含ませる。4,象徴的な線・色・形:西洋的な実物再現でなく、線・色・形そのものの美しさが重視される。5.その他の独特の表現形式:霞、吹き抜け屋台等。「非完結性」の類型に応じて作品を鑑賞教材化して実践し、その教育的可能性を確認した。実践の一例として応挙の金刀比羅宮表書院襖絵の鑑賞を示す(2,空間・場との総合に該当)。表書院には、鶴の間、虎の間、七賢人の間、山水の間が玄関側から順にある。生徒に、表書院の間取り図を示し、どの間がどこにあるか推理させた。推理の手がかりに、模型と共に表書院及びその周辺の外観写真を提示した。班で話し合わせ、推理結果と理由を発表させた。この実践では、襖絵を複数組み合わせることで生じる室内空間、さらに隣接する部屋、あるいは庭や立地場所との関係を包括した総合的な空間の美の理解を目指した。アンケート結果から多数の生徒は空間の美を理解し、活動も楽しかったとした。授業中も活発な活動が見られ、生徒の反応もよかった。この事例及び紙幅の都合上示せない他の事例の結果からも、日本美術作品の「非完結性」を理解させる鑑賞教育方法の教育的可能性が確認できた。
