H19年の研究では、伝統回帰・環境共生の生活、大工職の伝統継承意識の高さなどの実態を明らかにできた。本研究では、自然と共生する住まい方の方向性を探るために、「庄内地方における伝統回帰型環境共生住宅」を理想の住まいとして、生活体験を実施した。さらに、高校生(328/340名=回収率96%)と保護者(113/340名=回収率33%)に「昭和30年代以前の住まい方に戻れるか」のアンケートを実施した。分析結果は以下の通りである。(アンケートは、筆者勤務先の山形県立鶴岡工業高学校の1・2年生を対象に実施した。)1)農村生活体験(高校生と教員)伝統的な空間や生活様式には概ね「戻れる」と感じている。しかし、「子供室は個室としない」、「携帯電話未使用」などのプラバシーに関わる生活項目については「戻れない」と答えている。2)高校生とその保護者へのアンケート結果「核家族から三世代家族へ」、「エアコンより自然通風利用へ」などの「環境共生的生活」は、「戻れる」意識が高い。しかし、「薪の利用」、「イロリやカマドの利用」など利便性に関わる項目は、「戻れる」と答えた人が少ない。理由は、年々進歩してきた設備に慣れて、大変な家事作業を伴う生活には戻れないことである。また、農村地域では市街地に比較して、「自然環境共生型」への住み替え意識、「和室」嗜好、そして「外観和風」嗜好が高い。さらに、「携帯電話のない生活」や「子供室は個室としない」という項目は、年齢による意識の違いがあり、高校生は「戻れない」と答えている者の割合が8割を越えている。以上、農村地域では伝統意識や環境共生意識が高いこと、高校生はプライバシー意識が高いことなどが明らかになった。ただ、7人以上の家族で暮らす高校生は、プライバシー意識は比較的低い傾向にあった。自然と共生する生活意識を育むためには、特にプライバシー優先の生活意識を改善し、家族人数の多い環境の中での生活体験が求められるという方向性を導くことができた。
