昨年度に引き続きフィンランドの教育状況を現地視察することができた。今年度の教育状況視察は3日間同じ学校に入ることができたことで,じっくり子どもたちの様子を観察することができた。私は、複式学級の異学年を交流させながら進める授業を期待していたが、実際教室の中での授業ではそのような授業を創造している様子はなかった。ただ、低学年での絵本の読み聞かせや中学年で学校裏の森などへ植物観察を行なう際には異学年が一緒になって活動していた。また、授業の方法としては教科書・ワークブックを中心にして進められていた。教師が自分で単元の構成を考えたり、子どもに興味をもたせたりするための特別な取り組みは行われていなかった。一校のみの視察であったので、フィンランドのすべての学校とまでは言い切れないところだが、多くの学校で教科書を中心にすすめられているであろうことが推察された。教科書を使ってある程度統一された内容を学習することで、国全体のレベルを上げているように感じた。それに対して、私たち日本の複式学級を担当するものは、なんとかして上学年と下学年の関わりを持たせるように授業を構成したり、単元をそろえたりする努力をしている(本校、鹿児島大附属等)。異学年を利用して教育効果を得られるようであれば、フィンランドをしのぐ教育効果を得るができる可能性を感じた。そういう意味でも複式学級での関わりに主眼を置いた各教科のカリキュラムを考えることが必要になってくるであろう。なお研究費で購入したPCはフィンランドの学校とのメール連絡等に活用できた。
