1.研究の目的本研究は,社会科学習理論と実践をつなぐものとして,学習環境デザインに着目した。子どもの概念変化に有効だと言われる「討論」の場の設定の仕方を工夫し,子どもへの効果を調査するものである。2.研究の方法書籍研究及び先進校視察を経て,3年生社会科「販売の工夫」,「地域に伝わる年中行事」の学習プランを作成し,それぞれ,実験群(社会科ルーム・円形座卓)・統制群(一般教室・一般的机配置)を入れ替えて実施した。授業後のノート記述の差異の分析と,学習形態にかかわるアンケート調査を行った。3.研究の成果ノート記述の分析に関して,学習後の振り返り記述は個人差が大きく,全体としては,実験群と統制群の間にある差は小さなもので有意な差は見られない。また,学習形態にかかわるアンケート調査では,子どもたちの社会科ルームに対する肯定度は高く,一斉討論時には「他テーブルの意見を聞きやすい」「一般教室よりも自分の考えを発言しやすい」,グループ討論時には「すぐに相談できる」「ノート等を見せ合いながら話し合うことができる」という意見が多かった。その一方で,個別学習時には「自分のスペースが曖昧でじっくり考えにくい」という意見も見られた。子どもたちにとって,円形座卓を利用した社会科ルームでの学習は「議論しやすい」ものであり,一般教室と同程度に概念変容を促したと言えよう。但し,概念変化に至るまでの過程の違いを明らかにしていくためには,調査方法の改善が必要である。プロトコル分析を行うなど,学習中の子ども間でどのようなことが起こったのかに焦点化することが有効であると考えられる。また,自由な雰囲気の中での充実した議論を成立させるには,学習の約束事の徹底と自由な雰囲気の中での議論の経験を重ねていく必要があると考えている。
