本年度の研究の目的は、東北アジア遊牧民社会の変容のメルクマールとしての墓葬の出現、城郭都市の初現形態の在り方、更にそれ以降の変容過程に着目し、分析を進めることであった。その目的達成のため、本年は、中京大定府管轄下にあった現在の内蒙古東部に位置する赤峰市の遼代古城址について構造上の分析に努めるとともに、我が国の研究者の訪れることが極めて稀であると現地研究者の説明を受けた通遼市・興安盟の遼金代の諸遺跡を訪れ、多くの基礎データを収集することができた。先ず、前者については、中京建城後の開泰2年に管轄下の多くの州県城の整備、設置がなされ、特に外縁に配置された州城は、中京を中心とする半径約100kmの同心円上に位置することが理解されるに至った。過去、踏査を行い得た中京を支える松山州、武安州、恵州故城などの州城が当時の漢族の城郭の構造について記す『武経総要』の記述と重なることが多いことも注目すべき確認事項であった。統一された規格・構成要素の推測される極めて類似した構造のもと、形作られた中京を中心とするネットワークは、中京の造営そのものが奚に対する高い政治性を直接的に示すとする理解を改めて認識し得るものである。次に、通遼市・興安盟に所在する遼代の州城趾は、我が国の研究者が訪れたことのない粛州故城、静州故城をはじめとして、その構造・位置に関するいくつかの基礎的資料を収集することができた。また、それらの踏査を通じ、それら遼代の州城が後の金代にあっては、新たに築かれた界壕との関係上からその防衛線の一翼を担う機構の一環として再整備された可能性を、出土した陶磁器片、武具・馬具の遺物の共通性などから看取することができた。その他、調査報告自体が全く公刊されていない、同地域内の契丹の墓葬、山岳寺院、祭祀遺跡などの存在を確認できたが、それらは遊牧民族である契丹民族の具体的実相を考察するための貴重な資料的源泉を提供している。
