重度・重複障害児は、その運動・認知・言語・社会性のすべての領域において著しい発達の遅れがみられる。障害の重い子どもを対象とする指導が成立するためには、子どもと指導者との意思のやりとり(対人的相互交渉)が基盤となり、言葉やシンボルでなく、非言語的なやりとりが中心とならざるを得ない。その際に,表情や発声が媒体の一つであるが、わずかな視線や身体の動きも子どもの気持ちを示すものとして重要である。一方、非言語的な母子相互交渉に関する発達研究では、相互同時的な行動である間協応動作や共同注視が相互交渉を構成する重要な要素であることが明らかとされてきた。そこで、重度・重複障害児の指導場面における子どもと教師の非言語的な相互交渉として、食事場面とおもちゃ遊び場面を取り上げ、その行動評価を行った。1)行動生起のパターン、2)子どもの注視方向、3)子どもの注意対象の項目を検討し、子どもの発達指標として、(1)自ら活動が選択できない、(2)自ら選択した活動に注意を向ける、(3)自ら選択した活動に注意を向け続ける、(4)自ら選択した活動に注意を向けつつ、他者の関わりに注意を向ける、(5)自ら選択した活動から、他者の導入した活動に注意を切り替える、(6)他者の導入した活動に注意を切り替え、注意を向け続ける、の6項目の行動指標が抽出された。さらに、これらの行動を成立させる要因には、指導者が子どもの活動を支え、促すための働きかけの程度が重要となると示唆された。子どもの活動の要素として、注意の容量、注視している行動の制止力、注意の変換力、注意の保持力が想定され、さらに子どもにとっての活動の親和性、新奇性によって示される活動の構造(予測しやすい、秩序だっている)等の課題、また情報のモダリティについても課題が残り、今後の課題とした
