宮城県鹿島台町山船越地区、愛知県安城市高棚町ならびに和泉町を調査対象地とし、それぞれの地区に所在する農業生産組織の展開過程について調査を進めるとともに、地区内に居住する農家構成員の生活史について、とくに就労歴に重点をおき聞き取り調査をおこなった。この研究を通じて以下の知見をえた。1.稲作をめぐる状況が悪化するなかで、地域の別を問わず、農業生産組織にとって複合部門の確立が喫緊の課題となっていることが判明した。2.農業生産組織における経営の受委託については集落内に限定するという制限がこれまで強くはたらいていたが、現在、この集落の枠を越えて規模拡大をはかることが大きな課題となっている。3.農業生産組織の参加農家構成員の就労状況から、農業生産組織の存立形態がその地域で現実に可能な農外労働の情勢と密接に関係していることが明らかとなった。それぞれの地域の農外労働の情勢は、とくに後継者ならびに女性の労働行為の選択を強く規定しており、そのことがまた、農業生産組織のあり方に大きな影響を与えているとみられる。4.農業生産組織に加入せず委託もせず個別経営を維持している農家は、農業生産組織の存続により規模拡大が難しくなり、年を追うごとに稲作兼業を深化させてきている。そのため、世帯主層の農業労働リタイアを契機として、近い将来、経営委託農家に転化するとみられる個別経営農家も少なくない。5.農業生産組織に経営を委託している農家は、生産組織の存続とともに一貫して増加してきている。そうした経営委託農家には、農業への復帰指向はまったくみられない。6.以上のことから、それぞれの地域の労働市場の展開を背景としながら、農業生産組織の長期間の存続により、参加農家と非参加農家の別を問わず、脱農あるいは離農への傾向が強められており、しかも、このことは、農業生産組織の存立にとって必要条件の一つであることが明らかとなった。
