本年度の研究実施計画に基づき、以下のように研究を進めた。1. 資料の調査・収集とデータベース化 「香港文学」に関するデータベース作成のために、資料の収集・整理に努めた。簡易的な形では、今年度執筆した論文「香港小説概観」の参考文献目録として発表した。最近になって『香港文学書目』『香港作家小伝』等かなり詳しい目録や資料文献が香港で発表されてきたので、これらの参考文献をいかした形でのデータベースの作成と公開を検討している。99年の早い時期に完成させ、公表したい。2. 「香港文学」作品の分析 特に、西西、施叔青の作品に関して分析・考察し、論文にまとめた。「終わらない物語-香港作家・西西論」では、西西の代表作「肥土鎮的故事」「浮城志異」等の分析と、イタリアの作家イタロ・カルヴィーノとの比較を通して、西西を実験小説家と位置づけた。また、「香港小説概観-施叔青の作品を通して-」では、香港小説を歴史的・内容的に整理分類した上で、香港文学を考える手がかりとなる作家として施叔青を紹介・論評した。さらに、この2年間の研究成果をふまえ、3月25日に大阪大学で開かれた「台湾文学シンポジウム」で、施叔青本人の講演「私の香港三部曲」を受けてコメンテーターとして報告を行い、4月14日〜17日、香港・中文大学で開かれる「香港文学国際学会」にもすでに中国語の論文「開放的故事-西西作品詳析」を提出しており、参加の予定である。今後は作品の分析・研究を続けていくとともに、翻訳にも積極的に取り組みたい。また、引き続き中国現代文学史における「香港文学」の意味を考察し、海外華文文学の位置づけ等のテーマに発展させていきたい。
