本研究の関心は製品輸入の増加と日本の流通システムの変化とを関連付けることにある。このため本研究ではデータを用いた輸入構造・流通産業構造の変化の把握とそれらの連関の経済学的ロジックの構築が目指された。本年度はケーススタディーにより流通産業による製品輸入実体を把握することが当初の目標とされた。前年度に作成された工業統計、繊維統計、通関統計をもとにした国内生産・輸入のデータベースをもとに輸入浸透度の変化が顕著である製品を取り上げ、それと流通産業の構造変化とを結びつけることが目指された。今回対象となったのは綿製品であった。これは具体的にはタオル等の加工度の低い製品とみることができる。これらの製品の輸入浸透度は急速な上昇を示している。しかしながらこのような輸入構造の変化が製造企業の生産拠点の海外へのシフトによっておきたものなのか、それとも流通企業による商品調達が国内から海外ヘシフトした結果であるのかについて明確な解答を得ることはできなかった。それというのも製造産業の生産額の変化と輸入金額の変化をみることはできるがその原因を探るデータを得ることができなかったためである。製造企業へのインタビューによると国内からの受注はここ数年で激減してういるとされる。しかしこれは輸入の拡大に加え総需要の縮小もあるため上記の疑念に対して方向性を示すものとはならなかった。また輸出入の変化が月次ベース等逐次しかも詳細に捕らえられることに対して流通産業の変化を捉えることができる統計が数年おきにしか作成されない商業統計のみに依存していることも事態の把握を困難にしている一因とみることもできるかと思われる。
