大正期の総合型学習に見られる体育を研究するため、奈良女子高等師範学校附属小学校(以下附属小と略す)と池袋児童の村小学校(以下児童の村と略す)を研究対象に選定し、史料の収集と考察を行った。附属小に関する史料の収集と考察及び学会発表は前年度に果たしたが、考察の不充分さを指摘されたため、今年度再び史料収集を実施し、論述を整え、再投稿した。目下審査中である。(日本体育学会体育史専門分科会編『体育史研究』)今年度は児童の村に関する考察を中心に進めた。児童の村は現存しないため、附属小のような一次史料の収集は不可能であったが『新教育研究』、『生活学校』、『綴方生活』などの数少ない雑誌史料を手がかりとした。児童の村では時間割をもたず、児童個人の発案による「総合型学習」が終始展開されたため、カリキュラムとしての体育は殆ど実践されていなかったことが明らかとなった.僅かに認められる児童の身体活動は原っぱでの自由遊び、木登り、運動会などに過ぎず、「総合型学習に見られる体育」と定義づけられる実践はこれらに限られていた.附属小との共通項を見出すとすれば自由遊び、体育的行事(運動会)となり、これらが「大正期の総合型学習に見られる体育」に位置づけることができよう。研究課題の報告とは多少ずれるが、今年度における児童の村の考察によって浮き彫りにされてきた新たな課題についても言及しておこう.それは児童の村がなぜに体育を実施していなかったのか、という問題である.音楽、図工は専科の教員を雇い実施していたが、体育にはそのような措置がなされていなかった。このあたりの事情をまずは児童の村を主導した野口援太郎、野村芳兵衛という大正自由教育の代表的実践者の体育観を考察することから着手し、明らかにしておきたいと考えている。大正自由教育の理論と近代日本の体育がどのようなせめぎ合いを見せていたのか、今後の大きな課題としたい。
