大正後期から昭和初期における学校体育の歴史的展開の中に大正自由教育の理論と実践がどのような影響を及ぼしていたのか、このことを実証的に明らかにするための基礎的資料を得ることを目的として当時の代表的な体育関係の雑誌を収集し、検討した。特に今年度は前年度の作業を踏まえて、まず雑誌『學校體育』と『國民體育』の未収集巻号分の補完と、さらには雑誌『小学校體育』の収集と分析を行った。分析の視点は前年度と同様に、第一に大正自由教育の代表的イデオローグがどれだけ寄稿しているか、第二に体育関係者による大正自由教育を養護する論考が見受けられるか、という点においた。前年度の成果によると、『學校體育』と『國民體育』の二誌は東京高師系の雑誌『體育と競技』や『女子と子供の體育』に比べて、大正自由教育への系統度合いが濃く現れていたが、今年度の未収集巻号の補完作業により、この傾向はいっそう顕著となった。また『小学校體育』にも大正自由教育の強い影響が現れていたことが明らかとなった。さらに今年度は『學校體育』と『國民體育』、そして『小学校體育』の中に奈良女子高等師範学校附属小学校体操科訓導北井柳太郎の名が多数見られることに着目し、遺族への聞き取り調査を実施した。その結果、北井は当時の文部省を中心とした体育界と大正自由教育実践校をつなぐ重要な人物であったことが判明した。つまり北井は大正自由教育の理論と実践を体育の中に取り込み、それを体育雑誌というメディアを通じて体育界に発信していた人物であった。2カ年間を通じて、体育雑誌に見る大正自由教育の影響を考察してきたが、分析は論考執筆者の氏名とその題目に着目した統計的な検討に止まり、表層的考察という間は否めない。今後はそれぞれの人物や論考の内容を詳細に分析、考察し、実証の精度を高めることが大きな課題である。
