平成12年度は、11年度に引き続いて、松下電器産業、ソニー、トヨタ自動車、および、ホンダ技研という調査対象企業について、関係者へのインタビュー調査と資料収集を行った。第一に、松下電器では、現地海外子会社社長の経験者へのインタビュー調査を通じて、海外子会社の成長に、本国マザー工場がどのような役割を果たすかを調査した。その場合、本社が海外子会社に割り当てる役割が技術移転に大きな影響を果たすことが明らかになった。第二に、ソニーでは、シンガポール工場の建設に際して、主要な役割を果たした人材がどのようなバックグランドを持つのか、社内でどのような役割を担うことが期待されているのかを調査した。この調査は、マザー工場が果たすべき役割が代替的な方法によって達成することが可能であるかもしれないという新たな疑問を生じさせるものであった。第三に、トヨタでは、トヨタイズムの形成と伝播におけるマザー工場についてインタビュー調査をこないこれまでの調査を補完した。トヨタでは新しい時代とともに、トヨタの経営のあり方をトヨタイズムと整理し、それを海外において浸透させていくことの重要性を強調していた。そして、ホンダに関しては、ホンダの海外展開について、マザー工場との関係からインタビュー調査を行った。調査においては、多くの課題を残すこととなった。インタビュー調査や資料収集の不十分さがあった。今後は、補完的な調査を行った上で、今回の調査結果を利用して、研究成果を公表していく予定である。
