平成12年度には,第1に平成11年度から継続して日米半導体企業の技術開発行動に関する基礎的データの収集を継続して行った.また,このデータ収集作業と並行して,日米企業行動の類型化作業を行い,いくつかの事実が新たに明らかとなった.特に平成12年度には半導体の応用分野のひとつである,HPC(High Performance Computers)での日米企業行動の相違に注目して,半導体技術の進歩と日米各企業との相互依存関係について検討を加えた.これらの平成11年度から平成12年度までの研究成果は,すでに査読付き投稿論文2本にまとめられ,それぞれ『一橋ビジネスレビュー』および『組織科学』の2誌を通じて発表される予定である.研究成果の一つである「資源の内部利用強制メカニズムとしての経済制度」と題する論文では,日米企業の中でも特に高度に多角化した日米半導体企業の技術開発行動に焦点を当て,米国の多角化企業が日本の多角化企業と比較して,相対的に新技術の開発に出遅れたことを発見事実として明らかにした.さらに,その原因が両国の資源の内部利用のあり方に起因していると言うことを指摘し,その論理的可能性を経済制度との関連から明らかにした.もう一つの研究成果である「日米HPC産業における2つの性能進化」と題する論文では,半導体の応用先であるHPC用に組み込まれる半導体の性能進化に注目し,米国企業は技術的性能以上に経済的な効率性を重視した性能進化を実現し,日本企業は相対的に技術的性能を重視した性能進化を実現したことを明らかにした.さらに,その原因を企業行動と競争構造との時間展開的な相互依存関係から考察した.
