特殊教育に携わる教員等が自作したソフトウエア及び教材教具についての情報を管理する分散型データベースの試作を行った。一般に、この種のデータベースは、各県に設置されている特殊教育センター等が構築する場合が多い。そこで、本研究では異なる特殊教育センター等が相互に連携しあいながら、情報を共有できるデータベースについて検討した。試作データベースのデータには平成9年本研究所にて行った研究課題、「障害のある子どもの指導方法等に関するデータベースの研究開発」において収集したデータを使用した。データの種類はテキストデータ及び画像データである。ただし、実際に検索を行う際に対象情報として扱えるのは、テキストのみである。DBMSソフトウエアとしてはORDBであるPostgreSQLを用いた。また、全文検索エンジンとしてはNamazuを用いた。データベース・サーバは本研究所と研究協力機関に1台ずつ設置し、本研究所側のサーバには「自作学習用ソフトウエアデータベース」を、研究協力機関には「自作教材教具データベース」を構築した。相互のデータについてはレプリケーションを行わず、全文検索のインデックスのみ相互に交換する仕組みとした。これは、特殊教育センター等がデータベースを構築する際には、データの管理責任の都合上、通常の分散型データベースのようなレプリケーションを行うことは考え難いからである。検索は、Webブラウザから行う。インターフェースはORDBによる検索に適したインターフェースとキーワードのみから全文検索を行うインターフェースの2種類があり、ユーザが選択する。ORDBに適した検索では、その都度、サーバに対してコネクトが張られて検索が行われる。全文検索では、基本的に自サーバ上のインデックスを検索してから、結果に対してのみコネクトが張られる仕組みである。本研究の結果から、特殊教育センター等のように所属の異なる機関同士が情報共有を行う場合、本研究のような「緩い繋がりの分散型データベース」が適していると考えられる。
