日本の焼物生産のうち、3大画期の1つといえる鉛軸陶器の成立を考える上で、韓国の鉛釉陶器生産は重要な位置を占める。本研究では、日本と朝鮮半島の7〜10世紀頃の鉛釉陶器を対象とし、その実態究明によって上記の問題について考察し、古代日韓交流史の一端を解明することを目指した。本年度の研究経過としては、韓国の国立慶州博物館、国立公州博物館、国立全州博物館などに所蔵される鉛釉陶器関係資料の実見調査を行うとともに、日本出土品との比較研究も行った。この結果、従来検討を行ってきた新羅の鉛釉陶器に加えて、百済の緑釉陶器の大枠を把握できた。また、これまでは容器類に相当する鉛釉陶器を中心に検討していたが、それ以外に鉛釉の施された瓦〓の様相も把握でき、日韓比較研究の基礎資料を得ることができた。ここでは、日本における鉛釉陶器生産の成立の問題に限り、主な検討結果を記すことにしたい。まず、日韓の鉛釉陶器の技術面での比較検討を試みた結果、双方の関係が見えてきた。釉薬の製作方法として、日本の奈良三彩では方鉛鉱から鉛丹を生成させた後に、それを用いていることが知られているが、日本の白鳳期の緑釉陶器は方鉛鉱をそのまま用いているものとみられる。朝鮮半島については、釉調の不安定さなどから考えて、日本の白鳳期と技術が共通し、鉛丹を用いていないことが推測された。一方、唐三彩は明らかに鉛丹を用いており、それらの状況を総合すると、白鳳期に始まる日本の緑釉陶器生産技術は朝鮮系であり、奈良時代に新たに中国系の技術が流入して三彩陶器の生産に結実したという見通しを得ることになった。次に、日本での鉛釉陶器の成立背景については、7世紀第3四半期でも早い時期に、朝鮮半島,特に百済から鉛釉技術がもたらされた可能性が高いと判断され、白村江の戦いなど、朝鮮半島周辺での混乱状況の中で、日本への亡命者が技術を伝えたことが想定された。
