项目摘要

本研究は、多様な空間認識を可能にする都市社会の特色を市民革命以前の地方都市に見出し、近世イギリスにおける都市化の影響を明らかにすることを目的とする。本年度は、地域流通システムの中枢を担う州の中心都市における非公式の経済社会関係に注目し、そうした関係が都市の制度や空間利用にどう作用したかを具体的に示すことを目指し、以下のような成果を見た。1.公的・私的社会空間における経済社会関係の形成都市治安判事による尋問記録の分析により、共同施設や街路における経済社会関係や個人住宅における私的な経済活動の特徴を具体的に示した。特にそうした場所を、特権的な市民だけでなく移住民や女性などの非市民を含む多様な社会層の生活を包含する「都市的社会空間」として捉え、そこでの経済取引がその私的な性格にもかかわらず、地域の農業経済や都市手工業の構造を反映した都市市場の一部であったことを示した。2.都市支配層の空間認識とアーバン・プロセス市参事会議事録の分析により、経済規制や社会統制の特徴を捉え、非公的経済社会関係の拡大に対応する都市支配層の空間認識の変容について考察した。都市空間のあり方を公的・非公的社会の両面から論じ、近世イギリスにおける州の中心都市の発展(アーバン・プロセス)は、首都ロンドンの成長や地主文化を背景とした国家形成の影響力と地域独自の多元的価値とが混在する社会に対応した制度的変化であったとする歴史認識を提示した。

This study aims at understanding the characteristics of urban society before the citizen revolution and the impact of urbanization in modern times. This year, the center of regional circulation system, the central city of the state, the non-formal social relations, the relationship between the urban system and the use of space, the specific purpose of this project, the following achievements are seen. 1. The characteristics of social activities in public and private social spaces, social relations and the formation of urban public security decisions, search records, joint facilities, streets, social relations and private housing are shown in detail.
