トラギス科の雌性先熟魚コウライトラギスの逆方向性転換の飼育実験を完了した。行動と外部形態の観察からは,逆方向の性転換の発現を示唆するデータは得られなかった。現在,実験個体の性機能の変化の有無を最終確認するための生殖腺の組織学的観察を行っている。これまでに逆方向性転換の確認されたベラ科やキンチャクダイ科魚種との,生態条件の比較から,性転換の可逆性の進化条件について考察を進めている。性転換に不明な点の多いゴンベ科魚類について,予備的な調査を実施した。オキゴンベについては,屋久島,口永良部島近海において分布調査を行ったが,調査に適した場所を見つけることができなかった。ホシゴンベ,メガネゴンベの2種については,口永良部島の個体群で観察調査を実施した。その結果,性転換は確認できなかったが,繁殖システムが従来断片的に報告されていたハレム型一夫多妻とは異なるタイプのものであることを確認した。ゴンベ科では近隣個体どうしの社会的な関係が弱く,ベラ科,キンチャクダイ科などとは異なる性転換のパターンがみられる可能性がある。本課題調査で得たこの手がかりを基に,今後も研究を継続させる予定である。8月にドイツのチュービンゲンで開催された国際動物行動学会(27th International Ethological Conference)において,本研究課題の成果である(1)雌性先熟魚類の逆方向性転換,(2)雌性先熟性転換プロセスの未授精産卵の機能についての発表(2件)を行った。本研究課題の成果のうち,(1)キンチャクダイ科ナメラヤッコの雌性先熟性転換プロセスにみられる未受精産卵の機能についての論文(2)雌性先熟魚アカハラヤッコの逆方向性転換についての論文を準備している。
