项目摘要

本研究は、大きな未決着問題であったべラ科魚類の雌性先熟生活史と共存する一次雄(生涯雄)の戦略的独立性について、性表現の可塑性の検証を手がかりに再考することを目的とし、キュウセン属キュウセンおよびホンベラを主な研究対象に、1)一次雄が何らかの社会条件により性転換しうること、2)その性転換の頻度は野外では低いこと、3)幼魚の成熟時の性が社会条件に影響をうけることについて裏付けるデータを獲得してきた。研究最終年度となる本年度はこれらの視点に基づきながら以下の研究を実施した。1)一次雄の性転換実験一次雄に雌性ホルモンを投与し生殖腺の卵巣化が確認した研究成果について論文をとりまとめ、学術雑誌に公表した。2)幼魚の飼育による一次雄の出現パターンの分析キュウゼン幼魚用い、同居状態に依存して分化する性のパターンが異なるかを検証する飼育実験を実施した。野外とは異なる条件を再現した実験区において遺伝的性決定をより明確に否定しうる結果を得ることに成功した。3)野外における一次雄の性転換の頻度調査ホンベラ野外個体群において施した標識放流個体の性変化の有無(頻度)について3年目の状況を追跡するための再捕獲,操作を6月から9月にかけて実施し(のべ123個体捕獲)標識8個体を回収すること成功した。一次雄として標識をつけた個体の雌化例は存在しなかったが、自然状況において性転換がほとんど生じないこと裏付ける具体的データを得た。4)幼魚の社会行動の野外調査鹿児島県口永良部島西浦湾のリーフにおいて、ニシキベラ属ヤマブキベラとキュウセン属トカラベラを対象に、幼魚の分布と同種内社会関係についての潜水観察を実施した。2種に共通した幼魚の生育状況の2パターンがみとめられた。そのパターンには2)の実験結果との類似性が確認され、一次雄の出現頻度に幼魚の生育条件が影響を与えていることが裏付けられた。
