本年度は日本手話をめぐる言説の資料としての文献収集を昨年度に引続き行ない、読解・分析の作業にとりかかりました。文献は(1)医療関係者(2)ろう教育関係者(3)手話学習に関心を持つ一般の人々、これら三者の目にふれそうなものを中心に集めていますが、まだ十分ではないことがわかりました。とくにろう教育関係者を取り巻く言説については、その変化を通時的に捉えるために過去の資料の読解も必要であることを痛感しています。したがって、文献収集も、読解・分析作業も、さらに広範囲にわたって行なう必要があります。今回補助金で得られた資料を足がかりとして、この後も長期間にわたって作業を継続します。手話学習者をとりまく言説については、文献だけでなく手話学習者としての私自身の体験・活動・調査を通して整理しようとしていますが、まだ成果を得るところまでは到達していません。この課題も継続して取り組みます。本年度も手話・聴覚障害に関係する数々の集会に参加しましたが、そこで一つ見えてきたことは、新生児聴覚スクリーニング検査が、日本手話をめぐるさまざまな言説が関わり合い対立し合う場・問題圏となっていることです。この検査をめぐってはいくつかの問題点が指摘されており、本年度は医療関係者、ろう教育関係者、行政担当者、親、ろう者、聴覚障害者等が集まって異なる立場から議論するシンポジウムが開催されました。この検査をめぐる議論・対立の過程で手話というものの捉え方の違いが鮮明に浮かび上がってくると思われるので、今後、日本手話をめぐる言説研究の一つの焦点として新生児聴覚スクリーニング検査にも注目することにしました。来年度の本務校での講義でもこの検査を重要な問題として取り上げることにしています。
