不妊治療の普及により、急増している多胎児を出産した家族への育児支援活動が展開されてきているが、双生児の母親より「言葉の発達の遅れ」に関する相談が非常に多い。双生児の間では2人のみで通じる独自の言語(以下Twin-talk現象と明示)を作り上げてしまい、日本語の習得に障害が生じることが推察されている。このTwin-talk現象は人間の言語の成り立ちの原点とも考えられるが、この現象を学術的に研究した報告は海外においても見られない。Twin-talk現象の発生機序を言語保健学的に解明することにより、急増する双生児出産家族における言語発達の遅れを予防するための育児指導指針を確立し、これら家族のファミリーケアの向上に資することを目的として研究を行った。結果:平成15年8月〜11月に220組の双生児の親について、Twin-talk現象についての郵送質問紙調査を行った。調査項目はTwin-talk現象が最初に見られた時の状況、発生単語、双生児ペア間での兄弟関係、日本語の修得水準、言葉の遅れの度合い、心理社会的発達水準等であった。このうち、現在もTwin-talk現象が続いていると確認できたペアで、特に顕著なTwin-talk現象でコミュニケーションが成立していると判断できる100組について家庭訪問調査を実施中である。家庭訪問では育児環境(家族構成、母子の育児交流、双子の寝かし方、母の就労の有無、家屋レイアウト、離乳食の与え方、等)を詳細に面接調査し、家庭訪問時に双子の親に依頼して、毎週1回昼夜を問わずTwin-talk現象の発生時のビデオ、テープレコーダーにより録音依頼を行い、後日回収中である。
