語学に消極的で、結果、低い英語力のまま数年を過ごしてきた大学生のディモチベーション要因として、1) Reduced self-confidence,2) Classes,3) Compulsory nature of English study,4) Ways of learning,5)Teachers,6) Negative group attitude,7) Negative attitude toward English itself,8) Lack of positive English speaking model,9) Negative attitude English communityの9要因が考えられている。本年度は、まず、英語が苦手な大学生72名を対象に、クラスター分析によるプロファイリングを行った。その結果、約半数が英語力向上を切望しつつ学習には消極的で、その一番の要因は過去の失敗経験による有能感の喪失であると見出された。また、英語に完全に否定的な態度であるのは、約1割に過ぎないことも分かった。これは、習熟度別クラスの下位グループに属する学生でも、約9割は大学で勉強をやり直したい気持ちを持っていることであり、教員側への有意義な示唆である(ARELEに論文掲載)。次に、「学習における自信喪失」の原因を探るために9要因間での相関関係を調べたところ、学習者自身の問題として最も相関係数が高かったのは「学習方法」であった。この因果関係の妥当性を計るために、学習観および勉強方法を探るための22の質問項目を考案し、英語力が初級レベルの学生80名と中級レベルの学生18名にアンケートを実施した。その結果、前者は後者に比べ、英語の学習方法が不安定で各タスクの意義が分からないまま学習を行ってきていることが明らかとなった(九州英語教育学会発表)。

As a result, about half of the English force is eager to learn, but negative, because of the failure of the past, there is a sense of loss. The attitude of complete negation in English is about 1 cut. The students, students, teachers and students who belong to different levels of learning are expected to be able to continue their studies in the university. Second, the reasons for the loss of self-confidence in learning are explored. The correlation between the nine important factors is adjusted. The problem of learners themselves is highly correlated with the learning method. There were 80 elementary students and 18 intermediate students in English proficiency. The former is different from the latter, and the English learning method is unstable.
