Workshop style in English lessons for less proficient learners in College

First, this study examined the degrees of basic English grammatical knowledge of university freshmen who have failed in learning English. As the result, they were judged as being at the junior high school level and overall lack of accurate understanding in both tense and parts of speech. Moreover, it was found that their incorrect understanding of each question had certain features.Active learning style lessons based on a collaborative learning technique were conducted for less proficient English learners in college to reduce their demotivating factors for learning English and engage them in the learning process. The findings suggest that active learning has an effect not only on producing a positive attitude toward learning in less proficient learners, but also having them maintain positiveness over the course of a semester. In addition, the learners preferred this learning style, which improved their overall motivation and academic outcomes.
