本研究は我が国の高齢者福祉施設を効率的に整備する手法を考究するための萌芽的研究として,歴史的建築物における芸術的価値の保存と高齢者介護施設としての活用について明らかにすることを目的とし調査を実施した。研究対象は,歴史的建築物が高齢者介護施設として活用されている先駆的な事例として,英国のスコットランド地方に立地する住宅建築のケアンドゥ(Cairndhu,1872年)を取り上げた。平成18年度においては,以下の調査を実施した。1.夏季住環境調査高齢者施設の住環境要素の内,特に居住者の健康に深く関係する温熱環境の測定を実施した。ケアンドゥにおける実測は,オーナーの意向(施設のプロパガンダに関する憂慮)により協力が得られなかったため,研究対象と同じ建築家W.Lieperにより同地域・同時期に建築された2棟の住居を発掘し,これらに対する夏季実測を行った。本研究の目的を考慮し,2棟の内,1棟は高齢者が居住する住居とし,データの収集を実施した。2.保存実態調査前年度の調査結果,建築家・ウィリアム・リーパーによる住宅建築がヘレンズバラ地域に多く現存することを発見し,その歴史的建築物の分布について実際に建築物の存在を確認しながら地図上に布置する作業を行った。また,本研究対象としたケアンドゥの1999年・2001年当時の改修計画の平面図の一部を発見した。3.他の西欧地域の歴史的建築物の保存・活用実態の視察研究のまとめの段階において,英国以外の地域における歴史的建築物の保存・活用の実態を把握し将来的な研究の発展に資する知見を得るために,ドイツ(ミュンヘン)とデンマーク(コペンハーゲン)にて視察を行った。その結果,市庁舎やホテル,百貨店,美術館などに利用されながら歴史的建造物が現代生活の中で利用されていることが明らかとなった。なお,本研究による研究成果の一部は,学術的論文として投稿・掲載を行った。
