研究期間の最終年度であるため,研究のとりまとめの一環として,まず,中期ウェールズ語散文説話『マビノーギ』の口承性に関する研究成果を国際ケルト学会(XIII International Congress of Celtic Studies)で発表した。本大会は4年に一度,開催される最大規模のケルト研究に関する国際会議で,本年度はドイツのボン大学で7月23日〜27日にかけて行われた。研究代表者は日本から唯一の発表者として参加し,Philological and Historical Sectionの2日目で‘Who's afraid of the Coraniaid?-Writing and Performing History in the cyfarwyddyd of Pen Bendigeidfran'という題目の口頭発表を行った。これは,『マビノーギ』の中の一編と,ラテン語による歴史テクストのウェールズ語版に挿入された説話を取り上げ,後者が三題詩(triawd)という中期ウェールズ語の口承スタイルと,ブリテンの神話的歴史というテーマを共有しているにもかかわらず書かれたテクストとしての特徴を強く持っていること,対して『マビノーギ』の説話は口承的特徴をとどめていることを,テクスト解析を用いて両者を比較することで明らかにしたものである。テクスト解析のプログラムは,研究分担者である山田が作成し,それをもとに研究グループとして考察を行った。なお,発表では,古代、中世ブリテン史の国際的研究者やウェールズ文学研究者から示唆に富んだコメントを受けることができた。本研究は,研究成果の一般への公開を目的の一つとしていたが,それについては,翻訳出版という形には至らなかったものの,市民を対象にした文学講座で,研究を通じて完成した『マビノーギ』の日本語訳を使い,2回の講演を行った。平成20年度も,継続して残りの説話についての紹介を同講座で行うことが決定している。
