平成20年度は、前年度に行った「話題」検索用キーワードのグループ化とその補充、点検と分析を行った。キーワードは、各教科書で扱われる内容を形式(ジャンル)と話題に分けて行った(例えば、形式:対話文;話題:文化(日本);食文化(寿司)key word: sushi, deliciousというタグをつける)。さらに新しいジャンルとして、固有名詞(地名、人名等)を整理し、国名および地域名のタグ付け、関連づけを行った。18年度から3年間に亘る本研究の成果は、研究そのものの成果と研究の過程で得られたものに分けることができる。まず、研究課題そのものの成果としては、中学校検定教科書における「話題」が、学習指導要領の改訂とそれにともなう教科書の改訂が行われた、1940年代後半〜50年代、60年代〜80年代、90年代以降で、大きく三世代に区切れることが、データ面からも裏付けられた。と同時に、指導要領の改訂と、「話題」の変化との関連性は意外に乏しく、その中で、週3時間制導入と国際化推進を謳った70年代の改訂が注目される。しかし、研究の過程において、教科書本文の全文のデータベース化を断念し、また、韓国、特に中国の教科書との比較が現行教科書間に止まざるを得なかったことから、本研究に類する研究の問題点(著作権等)が明確になった。これは、予算執行にも少なからぬ影響を与えてしまった。こうした経験から、「話題」と使用語彙、特に一般語彙ではない語彙、sushiなどの日本語を含めた非英語語彙や固有名詞を軸にデータベースを再構築することが、有用性を持つのではないか、との結論が得られた。また、研究方法も、ネットの発達により、スカイプなどの会議システムを活用し、より効率化、円滑化されたことも、報告しておきたい。詳しい成果については、上記のデータベース再構築後に、他国研究との比較を含め、改めて整理し発表したい。
