自己調整資源の枯渇の影響を扱った従来の研究は,その多くが実験的な操作によって枯渇の水準を設定し,その後の課題遂行量を測定することで枯渇の影響を捉えようとするものであった。このようなアプローチでは,実際には枯渇の程度が測定されてはいない点,そして枯渇の短期的な影響しか扱えていない点で,必ずしも十分な検討が行われてきたとは言えない。本研究課題では,これらの問題を克服するため,生理的な指標を用いて枯渇の程度を測定すること,そして,枯渇の長期的な影響を把握することを目指した。3年の助成期間の最終年度である本年度は,まず,昨年度までの成果を,本年3月に刊行した「排斥と受容の行動科学-社会と心が作り出す孤立」(サイエンス社)において報告した。具体的には,特性的な自尊心の社会的痛みの緩和機能についてfMRIを用いて行われた実験の結果が報告された。また,昨年度の研究において,生理的な指標を用いて確認された,ハイメインテナンスな活動が自己調整資源の枯渇に及ぼす影響に関して,今年度は社会心理学的な指標を用いてその長期的な影響過程を検討した。そのテーマは,ハイメインテナンスな相互作用が自己調整資源の枯渇を招く結果として自己確証的な傾向を高める可能性を検討するものであった。具体的には,質問紙調査によって,刑法犯の容疑者に対する規範的な判断に及ぼす,公正なる世界観と自己調整資源の枯渇ならびに制度への信頼感の影響について検討した。分析の結果は,ハイメインテナンス相互作用によって自己調整資源が枯渇した者は,社会制度への信頼が低いほど自らの公正なる世界観を規範的判断に反映させやすくなることを示していた。本研究課題によって得られた一連の結果は,自らの欲求を抑えて環境からの要請に合わせるという行動パターンが自己調整資源を枯渇させる可能性が,脳電位というマイクロレベルの指標においても,規範的判断における自己確証バイアスというメゾ-マクロレベルの指標においても認められることを示した。またfMRIを用いた検討の結果は,自己調整資源の枯渇が特性的自尊心によって緩和される可能性を示唆するものである。
