The luminescence spectrometer will be used for the investigation of crystalline inorganic solids, coordination compounds and helicene derivatives as organic photocatalysts carried out by different research groups in Inorganic and Organic Chemistry. The application areas cover both steady state and time-resolved spectroscopy in the UVVis to IR region. Furthermore, the requested configuration allows to record temperature-dependent spectra including at low temperatures, the determination of quantum efficiencies and the fast recording of spectra via multi-channel detection.The requested spectrometer will be used to investigate the properties of potential novel photocatalysts as well as rare-earth doped materials, for example for quantum information technologies, and materials for photovoltaics. Furthermore, it allows to observe reaction pathways with luminescent reactants. Measurements at low temperatures yield a better resolution of vibrational fine structures or much narrower line widths; measurements in a wide temperature range for example allow for the determination of luminescence quenching temperatures or the investigation of defects within the frame of thermoluminescence measurements. Knowlee regarding line widths is, for example, of great importance for quantum information technology. Temperature-dependent optical properties and knowledge regarding defects play an enormous role in the development of inorganic solid state phosphors. Especially the development of new materials for quantum information in the IR-region is becoming more and more important, because this would allow to use the existent glass fiber networks.
