1.神奈川県と静岡県に存在する横穴墓と古墳の所在地・立地・時期・特長・出土品の内容を既報告書類から市町村別のデータをコンピューターに入力した。そのうえで、古墳時代後期から奈良時代前半にかかる仏教関連遺物と豪族層に係わる遺物と判断される武器・馬道類の種別および点数をデータ化した。2.仏教関連遺物については、金銅製の仏具およびそれを模倣した須恵器の器種と生産地が明らかなものを抽出し、両県のどの地区に集中するのかを集成してデータ化した。3.横穴墓と古墳の副葬品から仏教分化の需要者層の集中分布区域と、奈良時代の火葬骨蔵器出土地を既報告書から調べ、その分布の比較を行った。4.さらに古瓦類を出土する古代寺院所在地の分布図を作成して、その寺院の位置と仏教関連遺物を出土した横穴墓や古墳の位置関係を比較し、古代寺院が成立する基盤と豪族層とにどの程度の関連があるのかを調べた。5.神奈川県内に存在する横穴墓や古墳に副葬された須恵器類は古墳時代後期から奈良時代前半にかけてのものが多く、分布の集中度が高い大磯丘陵での須恵器類を中心として実物の調査を行った。その結果、大部分が静岡県の製品で占められていることを把握し、その供給元である湖西古窯址群の製品と比較する調査を行った。6.静岡県の横穴墓および古墳出土の資料を現地で調査し、古代寺院の成立に及ぼした影響を調べた。しかし寺院関連資料の限界もあって、神奈川県の場合ほどには明確にできなかった。7.静岡県の寺院としては、駿河片山廃寺の出土瓦や土器類を中心とした調査を行った。また、生産址である宮川瓦窯跡群清泉寺窪1・2号窯の製品を実物とで比較検討し、寺院と生産址との供給関係を調べた。
