A study on the techniques of Japanese style architecture in the Imperial Household in the first Meiji period

The purpose this study is to investigate the techniques Japanese architecture on the basis of the technical specifications in the Aoyama Palace (1874-96) , the Imperial Sanctuary and the Inner Palace (1878) , the Prince Higasifushimi's Residence (1880) , the Prince Arisugawa's Residence (1880) , the Reception Hall (1881) , the Princess Shigenomiya's Palace (1882) , the Princess Masunomiya's Palace (1882) , the Prince Harunomiya's Palace (1885) , the Togashima Detached Palace (1886) , the Nii-no-tubone's Residence (1888) , and to make clear the influences on the Imperial Palace built in 1888.The majority of these architecture were built in traditional Japanese style after the model of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. Above all the techniques of the Aoyama Palace, the Imperial Sanctuary and Inner Palace, the Prince Harunomiya's Palace were succeeded to the Inner Palace of the Imperial Palace.The Reception Hall was built in semi-Western style and the Middle Palace on the Aoyama Palace built in 1882 introduced new techniques that is piling, blick foundation work, cocrete footing. these new tecniques were proposed by Josiah Conder for the Audience Hall in the Imperial Palace, but preceded in this Middle Palace.
