今日,心拍の周波数分析(パワースペクトル解析)が糖尿病,心臓病,自律神経障害等々の疾病の診断,治療,予後などに応用されるようになってきた。この心拍変動のパワースペクトル解析は自律神経系の活動水準,すなわち,交感神経と副交感神経(迷走神経)のバランスを定量化することができる。特に,前記の疾病の際には交感神経優位を示す。一方,健康な者や全身持久性トレーニングを長年実施している者は副交感神経優位を示す。本研究の実験Iでは,大学陸上中・長距離選手の強化練習あるいはその後の回復期にみられる副交感神経や,副交感神経と交感神経のバランスを追跡調査した結果,3日間の強化練習によって,副交感神経の活性低下に伴い交感神経優位の状態になる。その後の回復期に経日的に強化練習前のバランス状態に回復する。実験IIでは,大学体育専攻生3名について,7週間PWC_<170>と心拍変動のパワースペクトル解析を実施したところ,PWC_<170>と副交感神経の活動水準とがほぼ同期して変動することを認めた。したがって,定期的に心拍変動のパワースペクトル解析を実施することによって,体調のみならず全身持久性のperformanceまで予測することが可能だといえる。さらに,オーバートレーニングなどの予防にも役立つ。今後はこれらの事実を一つずつ実証していく必要があろう。
