1.語用論的分析により「不満表明行為」とは好ましくない状況への反応として、話し手(S)が聞き手(H)に対し、直接的あるいは間接的に行う心的態度の表出行為であるとし、以下のような特徴をもつと考える。1)SはHに対し、ある種の行動期待をもっている。2)Sは行動期待に反する状態を好ましくないと認識している。3)Sは現状を好ましくない状況であると認識しており、その原因はHによって引き起こされたと思っている。4)Sは好ましくない状況がHによって引き起こされたと認識していることを、Hに何らかの手段により伝えたいと思っている。2.不満表明ストラテジーの使用傾向(実験的談話行動データの数量的解析により)a.伝達方略の選択メカニズム設定された要因ごとに、選択された不満表明ストラテジーの個別的使用傾向が見られるが、改善要求・命題内容の表出といったストラテジーの具現化において、日本語では直接的・明示的ストラテジーを多くしようとする傾向が見られた。また、好ましくない状況が生起した原因・理由を問うストラテジーを多く使用するといった特徴も見られた。b.談話構造-連鎖型の分析不満表明行為の特徴をより詳しく捉えるため、収集したデータから、特定の場面における各ストラテジーの表出の連鎖パターンを分析した。その結果、特徴としてバリエーションの少ないいくつかの連鎖型に集まる傾向があることがわかった。このような結果から、ストラテジーの使用には個々の設定場面において、そこで使用されるストラテジーの連鎖パターンが典型化されていることが考えられる。
